ABOVE ALL, GREENWAY IS TO BE GREEN

March 25, 2008
The Boston Globe

ACCORDING TO the Globe, problems with placing the Boston Museum, YMCA, and New Center for Arts and Culture on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway may detract from its future use ("Trouble on the Greenway," Editorial, March 20).

This month my wife and I took the Orange line to Haymarket, went around the block, and walked the length of the Greenway from the North End to Chinatown. We had a view of Boston that is totally new to us. The space is open and fresh, bounded by urban possibilities. We saw businesses and places to explore we didn't know were there.

Spring temperatures will soon add the green. After a few years when trees and shrubbery mature, this picturesque slice of Boston could rival the Esplanade. Some amenities may be helpful as this space invites more people into it. However, let's not suggest there is trouble on the Greenway just because a few buildings aren't going to make an appearance.
