Greenway Opening Festival

When: Saturday, October 4, 2008

Where: Multiple locations along the Greenway

Come to the Greenway – Rise high over the parks in a passenger balloon. Ride a Ferris Wheel. Honor mentors on the Mothers’ Walk. Get into the music of local bands. Hear renowned musicians too. Cheer for your neighborhood dance troupe. Learn to dance. Win prizes. Be in a parade. Get fit. Go Green!

The parks are here! After years of Big Dig construction, it’s time to celebrate the Greenway parks in downtown Boston with a free park-wide Opening Festival on October 4.  With the City of Boston and our many sponsors, the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Conservancy presents this once-in-a-lifetime celebration and applauds a vision completed…a park where there was once an elevated highway!

Dozens of local organizations and individual artists will display Boston’s rich cultural heritage through art, dance and music. An interactive cell phone-enabled treasure hunt will lead visitors to learn surprising facts about Boston’s history. Other contests, games, and Go Green activities will showcase the park as an intersection between city life and sustainability. Stay tuned for more details.
