Even as our team is focused on planning a terrific 2017 season, we’re celebrating record attendance: 2016 saw 1,379,000 trackable visitors, topping the previous record of 1.19M set in 2015.
We had a record high in every category:
- We hosted over 400 free events on The Greenway in 2016, more than ever before, and these drew a record 445,000 attendees. Some of last season’s favorites were the artisan and farmers markets, the Boston Calling Block Parties, the 126 free fitness classes, performances (like a Japanese Klezmer concert from Jinta la Mvta), and festivals (the African Festival, Brazil on The Greenway Festival, Caribbean Festival, FIGMENT participatory art festival, Chinatown Lantern Festival, Bostoberfest beer festival, August Moon Festival, Greenway Food Truck Festival Sponsored by Stop & Shop and Peapod, Race Amity Day Festival, and Boston Local Food Festival).
- The Mobile Eats Program saw 652,000 patrons to The Greenway, up from 635,000 the previous year. As you await the announcement of the 2017-2018 schedule and new cuisines, there are still plenty of great trucks in the park every weekday for lunch.
- Helped by the sunny summer, the Greenway Carousel at The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Grove set another record with 126,000 paid riders. We also host a Free Fun Friday at the Greenway Carousel, sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation, as well as Carousel visits by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. (The Carousel reopens March 31st, 2017 and birthday parties are booking now!)
- Our free, carrier-grade Wi-Fi network had 156,000 log-ons, topping the previous high in 2014; 2015 was down as we rebuilt the system through a unique, no-cost-to-the-Conservancy partnership.
These trackable figures do not count the millions who enjoy the seven fountains, lounge on the organic lawns, walk through the gardens, or contemplate the public art.
