Urban Nursery
The Greenway Conservancy is proposing to install an Urban Nursery to transform the highly visible, centrally located parcel (between North and Commercial Streets) from a vacant land to a productive part of the Greenway until such time as a permanent land use is determined. The proposed Urban Nursery will present a strong, visual impact to passing motorists and pedestrians.
The Urban Nursery will hold young trees while they mature for a period of 2-5 years. The trees will be managed with sustainable landscape practices and harvested incrementally on a yearly basis. Transferring these trees to specific sites in need of tree coverage, such as schoolyards, community gardens, and neighborhood streets will allow the “greening” of the Greenway to extend beyond the corridor.
