In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth), 2011
The Cause Collective
In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth) is an installation comprised of a touring, portable, inflatable 'Truth Booth' that was launched in 2011 at the Galway Arts Festival (IRL). The exterior is iconically shaped like a giant cartoon speech bubble with the word 'TRUTH' boldly printed on the side. The interior acts much like a photo booth, but serves to compile 2-minute-long video responses from the public. Once seated inside they will then be invited to record their opinions and thoughts as they finish the statement: "The truth is...". Throughout this long-term project the video footage will be compiled and edited into a video artwork. To expand and engage with audiences, the movements of TheTruth Booth and sample responses will be tracked, edited, discussed and categorized on this website.
The Truth Booth will be live at the Verb Hotel in The Fenway April 11-12, followed by a move to the Greenway April 13-15. The Truth Booth will be open from 11am – 7pm for the 3-day installation on The Greenway.
The partnership is made possible through GT Public, an arts organization in Boston dedicated to bringing innovative contemporary art projects and programs to public spaces through collaborative models, and the non-profit Greenway Conservancy. On April 12th, artist Hank Willis Thomas will speak at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Visiting Artist Series.
The CAUSE COLLECTIVE is a team of artists, designers and ethnographers creating innovative art in the public realm. Our projects explore and enliven public spaces by creating a dynamic conversation between issues, sites and the public audience. By exploring ideas that affect and shape society, we seek to add the "public" back into public space and art. To Learn more visit: http://www.causecollective.com/
