What’s In Bloom

August is always one of our showiest months for flowers on the Greenway. From dinner plate-sized Hibiscus to aromatic Mountain Mint, we’ve got a flower for every style and predilection. Take a stroll through the Dewey Square demonstration gardens to see what the “buzz” is about: the Os Gemeos mural is fabulous (read more about it here), but the bees are going crazy over our Sunflowers and fragrant Summersweet shrubs. Summersweet (Clethra alnifolia) is a deciduous shrub native to Eastern North America, and we have two varieties growing in the Greenway gardens. Candy-pink ‘Ruby Spice’ Summersweet is blooming in the Dewey Square and Fort Point Channel Parks, along with a white-flowered Summersweet that is also blooming throughout the Wharf District.

Rainbow Knock Out Rose (Rosa ‘Radcor’)

The Fairy Roses are flowering in Dewey Square, and our gorgeous varieties of Knock Out® roses continue to bloom in the North End and Fort Point Channel Parks. Our native Rose Mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos) is blooming in the Wharf District Parks near Harbor Fog, with creamy white petals and a maroon band at the base of the flower. Other Greenway relatives in the Hibiscus genus are Rose-of-Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus cultivars) and Hardy Hibiscus (Hibiscus ‘Kopper King’, ‘Lord Baltimore’, and ‘Blue River II’), which can be seen in the Fort Point Channel Parks.
