…And that’s a wrap on Summer!

23, Oct, 2017 Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy

Wow! We’re finally catching our breath here on The Greenway after a super full and super fun summer! Read on to learn more about a summer chock-full of art and play and horticultural discoveries!

This summer we were thrilled to host 15 different youth organizations from around the city! Clubs joined us for a delicious food truck lunch, a spin on the Greenway Carousel and opportunities for free and open play in the park. We are so grateful for the many Mobile Eats vendors who offered their in-kind support, sharing a wide variety of cuisines with our youth ages 6-18. Thank you to all of our food truck partners!

This year we added three new clubs to our roster and we were so impressed by the way members and staff explored the park and made it their own!

My favorite part of the trip was just seeing my preteens interact with one another, and enjoying themselves while exploring nature within the city. The questions they were asking, the conversations on how cool Boston is to have everything within walking distance and of course, the games and [fountains] was lots of fun! – Youth Group Staff on Youth Adventure Days

Youth were asked “What are you building?” and explained “We’re challenging our minds! This is a city and we have to fix the power-surge before it blows up”.

A big draw during our Greenway Play Sessions and new this year for many of our visitors was the Family Tinkering Kits provided in collaboration with the Boston Children’s Museum. Kids had a chance to measure, weigh, and play with water, build robots, tinker with play-dough and more.

It was so awesome to check out The Greenway’s famous vermicomposting system (that’s worms to you!) with Plant Health Care Horticulturist, Tori, at our Truck & Tractor Day event this year.

Chinatown Play Session
Trina, our Senior Ranger, stops for a brief challenge of the minds during our Thursday night Greenway Play Sessions in Chinatown Park.

We had a great time playing with you all this summer, and we’re looking forward to continuing with some special Fall programming! Keep an eye on our Facebook Event Page for upcoming Greenway Play Sessions during school vacation days.
