Guest Blog: Kristine Munroe-Mahoney and her Carousel Connoisseur
My 5 year old, Isaac, is a huge fan of carousels. In fact, he considers himself a bit of a carousel connoisseur. (Say THAT three times fast!) His favorite carousel is by far the Rose Kennedy Greenway Carousel. In fact, it’s my favorite, too! We rode the Rose Kennedy Greenway Carousel many times over the summer. Isaac almost always picked a butterfly to ride. That’s one of the things we love about the carousel; there are lots of unique creatures to ride!
We live in West Newton, so we would take the commuter rail into Boston which was part of the fun! We’d mosey over to the Greenway from South Station, ride the carousel, play on the Greenway and at Christopher Columbus Park, and grab a slice of pizza from the North End before heading home.
One thing I didn’t realize was that the carousel continues to run through the fall and into early winter. So, if you didn’t make it over the summer you still have until the end of the year to enjoy it on the weekends! What’s more fun than Boston on a crisp fall day? Or a chilly and sunny December afternoon before the holidays get in full swing? Make a day of it! Take a spin on the carousel, peruse the gift shops at Faneuil Hall, and then hop over to the North End to warm up with some hot chocolate and yummy pastries at Vittoria Caffe. Experience all that the area has to offer.
The current hours for the carousel are:
Fridays & Saturdays, 11am-9pm, open Sundays 11am-7pm
November & December hours:
Fridays & Sundays, 11am-6pm, Saturdays 11am-7pm
Open for Winter holidays December 20-31, excluding Christmas Day.
Enjoy the coolest, most unique carousel in New England and enjoy the fantastic Rose Kennedy Greenway. It’s one of the best things about being in Boston!
