Welcoming Little Amal to Boston

ArtsEmerson, in partnership with the City of Boston and the Greenway Conservancy, is honored to welcome Little Amal and present a very special community wide event: AMAL WALKS ACROSS AMERICA. ONE LITTLE GIRL. ONE BIG HOPE on September 7, 2023.

Little Amal, whose name means “hope” in Arabic, is the 12-foot puppet of a 10-year old Syrian refugee child whose journeys across many countries carries a message of hope for displaced people everywhere, especially children who have been separated from their families.

This event marks the kickoff of a remarkable 35-city tour from Boston, where Amal takes her first steps, all the way to San Diego. The entire community is invited to join us as we walk with Amal and to be part of this special moment as Amal walks with our community, illuminating the importance of empathy and the spirit of embracing all.

Join us when she walks with us from Dewey Square to the Chinatown Gate. Her path is enhanced along the way with musical ensembles and artistic nodes comprised of music from several immigrant communities culminating in community celebration in Chin Park.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO WALK WITH AMAL!

Little Amal’s journey spans across numerous countries, symbolizing the resilience and courage of those who seek a better life. Her poignant plea, “Don’t forget about us,” resonates deeply with the experiences of many in our own community.
