Celebrating Summer on The Greenway Presented by Citizens Bank
The Greenway Conservancy was delighted this season to announce Summer on The Greenway Presented by Citizens Bank, a new effort in our continued partnership with Citizens Bank. Inspired by our 2018 collaboration, Summer on Dewey, our 2019 season continued to highlight The Greenway as an iconic downtown location where visitors gather, play, unwind, and explore.
From the North End to Chinatown, wayfinding light pole banners stretched the entire length of the park for the first time. These banners guided visitors as they explored The Greenway throughout our 2019 season; showcasing The Greenway’s vibrancy, innovative programming, and enriching experiences.
Along The Greenway, our nationally acclaimed Food Truck Program returned this summer with diverse lunch options every weekday. The newly-opened City Winery on The Greenway, a downtown open-air wine garden in Dewey Square, featured wine by City Winery Boston and beer and cider by Harpoon Brewery and Trillium Garden on The Greenway returned for their third season. On Thursday evenings, Boston Calling Block Parties brought live music, beer, wine, and lawn games to Dewey Square.
Just steps from Dewey Square, visitors experienced Super A’s monumental new hyperrealistc mural, Resonance, on The Greenway Wall while enjoying beautiful, organically maintained horticulture along the length of the park.
The Greenway Spring Food Truck Festival presented by Citizens Bank launched the collaboration on May 4, 2019 and the partnership continued throughout The Greenway’s summer season. This family-friendly event was the perfect kick off to spring, with food trucks offering old favorites and new flavors, ranging from poké to poutine. Visitors enjoyed lawn games and live music from Berklee musicians as well as the Citizens Bank photo booth and mobile bank.
The food truck festival helped kickoff our weekly Greenway Open Market which stretched from High to Mercantile Street. The Greenway Open Market is a vibrant open-air artisan market featuring talented area artists, crafters, and independent designers. The market runs from May to October every Saturday plus the first and third Sundays of the month. Citizens Bank volunteered on The Greenway in July and August of 2019, working on projects with our Horticulture and Maintenance departments on The Greenway!
Citizens Bank has been a longtime supporter of the Greenway Conservancy. Citizens contributed to the construction of the Greenway Carousel at The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Grove, a one-of-a-kind Boston landmark, and has been an important sponsor of Conservancy initiatives such as our Park Ranger Program. In 2018, Citizens sponsored Summer on Dewey, highlighting some of our incredible programming in the heart of downtown Boston. The Greenway Conservancy honored Citizens Bank’s philanthropic and community leadership at its 2017 Greenway Gala.
