Saturday, May 30 | 4:30 to 7:30 PM | Auntie Kay & Uncle Frank Chin Park on The Greenway
We invite you to join us for a collaborative performance and reception orchestrated by Copenger, and lead artists Vivian Tran and An Hà, to celebrate the opening of Tran’s interactive public art installation, because you are the sun; because you are the thread.
Visitors are invited to enjoy a cup of chè thái, a Vietnamese iced dessert, to listen to music, and to contribute a patch to an ongoing, expanding quilt that provides shading for the space.
Artist remarks will start at 6 PM, followed by an invitation for guests to join a durational, collective movement of pushing a vending cart down the length of The Greenway and parading the quilt, conga-line style. The gathering and installation reimagine Tran’s grandfather’s labor of pedalling through the streets of Saigon to sell ice from a vending tricycle.

This work brings together Tran’s practice of exploring movement of the body as a thread linking narratives across time and space, with Hà’s interest in the sculptural poetry and assemblage found in Vietnamese dining culture. Both are co-founders of Copenger, an arts collective that stages events in unconventional spaces, with the belief that art and life are inseparable.
Tran’s public art project, because you are the sun; because you are the thread, will be on view in Chin Park on The Greenway beginning April 25, 2026 through December 1, 2026.
