Part II: Meet our Greenway Fitness Instructors

We’re back for another round of learning more about our amazing Greenway Fitness instructors! As we covered in part one of this post, the Greenway Conservancy is committed to bringing free and healthy workout options throughout the parks each summer. From pilates to boot camps, yoga to tango, over 100+ free classes are expected in 2018, covering a range of workouts and abilities. Support by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, now in its third year as Presenting Sponsor of Greenway Fitness, ensures that thousands of downtown residents, workers, and visitors enjoy a healthy workout in a beautiful public space.

All the instructors in our program donate their time to bring free and interesting classes to the public. We wanted to share a few more stories of the awesome fitness organizations and individuals that work with us to offer ongoing series throughout the summer!

InnerCity Weightlifting runs their Summer Workout Series on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30p from August 15-September 5. This inspirational nonprofit provides opportunities for proven-risk students to escape the cycle of violence and recidivism by building skills and careers in personal training and more. In their words they, “use the gym to replace segregation and isolation with economic mobility and social inclusion, disrupting the system that leads to urban street violence.” Their workouts are led by coaches and student trainers and include circuit style exercises.

Ali Baldassare is the creator of the Move Sweat Love brand which focuses on inspiration and motivation through fitness. MSL Pilates Bootcamp is returning to The Greenway for the 6th season and happens once a month from 6:30-7:30p; catch the last day of the season on September 10! Ali’s class often has hundreds of participants and is an awesome way to challenge, strengthen, and tone your body.

IMG_2225Healthworks is committed to free outdoor fitness, offering more than 80 classes on The Greenway and other public spaces throughout the summer! Their popular instructors teach high-intensity Tabata by Healthworks workouts on Monday nights from 5:30-6:15p and Saturday mornings from 10:00-10:45a. Enjoy your summer time outside and sweat in the sun!

Social Boston Sports has also been part of our fitness program for several years, bringing their mission to create opportunities for social interactions. They firmly believe that, “in order to be well we must be social in the world, interacting with people whose backgrounds are different from our own.” They host two Social Boston Sports Cornhole Leagues on The Greenway, with both league signups and an open set of boards for free play.

New this year, Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt, headquartered just outside of Boston, is a supporter of our Fitness program. Since hitting store shelves in 2011 as the first-to-market frozen Greek yogurt, Yasso quickly became one of the fastest-growing dessert brands. This year, they launched their new sports initiative, the Game On! Foundation, and will be popping up with free samples of their iconic bars and new pints on Dewey Square and at a few of our fitness classes throughout the summer.
