Spuds on the Greenway
We did a very cool thing – we turned 1 pound of potatoes into 17 pounds of potatoes–all we had to do was a little research. We only watered a handful of times and mulched once. The sun and the spuds did the rest of the work. This afternoon we’ll divide the potatoes and […]
Green & Grow Summer Interns are Back!
The Conservancy is so excited to have our summer interns again! Joining us this year (from the left of Darrah, a Greenway Horticulturist) are: Waverly, Andrew, Humberto, and Sam. All have graduated from the Green & Grow Apprenticeship Program and Sam and Waverly both completed the summer internship in 2012. “Things have really grown, I […]
Growing Greener
“All those learning sessions in the classroom, how to do this and how to do that, and where to put things, that all paid off when we went to Dewey. We already knew what we were doing, all we had to do was just do it.”
Growing Greener
In the words of Green & Grow Apprentice Randi “I feel really good about being involved in the Dewey project. It’s nice to know that my suggestions will actually be used and that people are going to benefit from our work.”
Life on the Greenway
To understand why we’re installing composting bins in the Dewey Demonstration Gardens, we spoke with Jessica, one of our Green & Grow leaders.
Dewey Demonstration Garden: Four-Season Interest Garden
To learn more about the four-season interest garden planned for Dewey Square Park, we stopped by to talk with Darrah, a member of our horticulture team at the conservancy.

Growing Greener with Green & Grow
During February vacation week, the Green & Grow Apprentices embarked on an unforgettable three day excursion to the White Mountains of New Hampshire where they climbed mountains, met with National Forest Service Professionals, explored their sense of self, and conquered their fears.
Dewey Demonstration Garden Takes Root
Despite the on-again, off-again coming of spring, the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy is continuing efforts to enhance the west garden beds of Dewey Square Park. This work, started last year, but delayed in the fall, builds on our existing practice of organic landscape management. We’ll be telling the story over the next few months as […]
Growing Greener with Green & Grow
One of the goals of the Green & Grow Apprenticeship program is to foster the development of a healthy and meaningful connection to our natural world. In essence, we bring this connection to work with us every day. The Apprentices are taking part in a number of activities to prepare them for their primary nature excursion—set to take place in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Growing Greener with Green & Grow
Green & Grow participants learn an eco-friendly alternative to discarding our organic waste in landfills by taking part in a hands-on workshop, where they brewed their own compost tea with the help of Greenway Horticulture staff.
Preparing for Winter
There is a large amount of behind the scenes planning and work that goes into putting the Greenway’s lawns and garden beds to rest for the winter and the Green & Grow Apprentices are learning all about it.
“Welcome” New Green & Grow Class!
The transition into fall and the start of a new school year signals it is time to say farewell to our Green & Grow summer interns and welcome a fresh class of new faces for the 2011-2012 program year.
Graduating Green!
After 9 months of greening the parks and growing their skills, our talented Green & Grow apprentices will graduate into new job opportunities this summer.
A Cocktail on the Greenway
It’s not easy being a garden in the middle of downtown Boston. A garden bed in Dewey Square Park is suffering from deficient soils and poor drainage, and will soon be getting some additional attention from our Green & Grow teens. We’re using the soil and irrigation remediation of this bed as an educational opportunity.
Green & Grow Apprentices Bundle Up for The White Mountains
Our ten teens recently returned from the White Mountains where they had the opportunity to get outside the city – and outside their daily routines and stresses – to explore a different kind of nature.
Budding Designers on the Greenway
Our Green & Grow apprentices recently learned just how much goes into planning a public park like the Greenway.
