Greenway Furniture A Hit, Let’s Keep It That Way!

The Greenway’s tables and chairs are a big hit, and we want to keep it that way!  To ensure this amenity continues to be enjoyed by everyone, Conservancy staff will be stowing the chairs at night (beginning around 9 PM), and setting them up again every morning.  Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

The WiFi system, parts of which are solar-powered, is a joint initiative between the City of Boston and the Conservancy, and was built by Anaptyx, LLC. Anaptyx generously donated […]

Asian Longhorned Beetle Alert

It was recently reported that the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) has been spotted in Massachusetts. The reproductive cycle of this particular beetle can be very destructive to local tree populations as the larvae attack the inner heartwood of the tree, feeding on it until full hatched, and then leaving the tree through dime-sized burrowed holes.  […]

Whether you are visiting the Boston for the first time or sticking around town for a “staycation,” the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway is a great place to begin or end your travels. A Conservancy Green and Growing

Yesterday was a proud moment for the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, as it celebrated the first graduating class of Green & Grow Apprentices.  The Green & Grow Program, which began in the fall of 2009, is a work development program that gives Boston teenagers the opportunity to work on the Rose Kennedy Greenway learning […]

Juneberries have arrived on the Greenway

It’s June and the Wharf District Parks are blooming with Juneberries! Members of our horticultural staff recently transplanted Juneberry trees from the future site of the Boston Harbor Pavilion and are pleased to announce the trees are doing well and bearing their sweet treats. The Juneberry, also known as the Serviceberry, Shadbush, or Saskatoon, is […]

Staying cool in the Greenway fountains

Today’s high temperatures brought young and old to the Greenway to cool off in the parks’ fountains. Check out how some stayed cool today in the North End Parks and Wharf District Parks. See more cool fountains at boston.com.

Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion construction begins

The Conservancy horticultural staff has recently transplanted fourteen trees and all of the plant material in the raised bed of the northern most parcel of the Wharf District Parks to prepare for construction of the Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion. The landscape may look a little barren right now but very soon construction fencing will be […]

Making it easier to find what you want

We’ve reorganized our website to help park visitors find what they are looking for. We’ll be adding even more content over the next several months – about food, horticulture, and more – but we’d love to know what you’d like to see. Send us your ideas at info@rosekennedygreenway.org!

Conservancy as convener

Last evening, the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway’s Leadership Council held a public meeting to discuss, among other things, proposed developments in and around the Greenway’s Chinatown Park. Linda Jonash, Greenway Conservancy Director of Planning and Design, along with representatives from the BRA and from Hudson Group, introduced the BRA’s plans for Mary Soo Hoo Park, […]

Testing our “bridginess”

Last Thursday, the Green and Grow apprentices wrapped up an 8-week engineering curriculum by putting their skills to the test – the weight test! Using only manila folders, rubber cement and glue, groups of three apprentices constructed bridge models that had to withstand the weight of 5 kg (11 lbs) in order to pass “inspection”. We […]

Healthy parks = healthy people

We’re excited about the buzz around our food vending RFP! Here at the Conservancy, we believe that options for food and drink in the parks will truly add to visitors’ enjoyment of the Greenway.  Whatever the menu may be, having good food conveniently available in the parks for a quick snack or a quiet lunch […]

Pilot food/beverage program for this summer

After a year of operating the parks, observing users, and listening to your ideas, the Conservancy is launching a small pilot program to serve food and/or beverages from carts in the parks during the coming summer and fall months. We are excited to meet a critical need of park users while maintaining a high-standard for […]

Dewey Square Parks/Fort Point Channel Parks Update

What’s in a name? Lately some misinformation has surfaced about the Conservancy’s plans for Dewey Square Parks, the section of the Greenway between Summer Street and Seaport Boulevard.  In response we are thinking about ways to send and receive ideas more clearly and beginning with posting a few facts in this blog. We’ve discussed the […]

Science in (teen) motion

Wow, what a show! The Conservancy’s Green and Grow apprentices: Darren, Estefany, Jack, Jayla, Krystal and Malik, just wrapped up their first semester presentations to the Conservancy staff and Green and Grow partners. This energetic bunch of 17-20 year-olds made plant cells, pruning, leaf structure and photosynthesis seem like more fun than covering your hands […]

Thanks for taking our call

A big thank you to the volunteers and vendors who contributed time and services last night and Monday evening to the Conservancy’s first-ever phone-a-thon. Between the calls and our annual appeal letter campaign, the Conservancy has already raised half of our $10,000 fundraising goal to support public programs and events, and sustainable horticulture and maintenance! […]

Protecting the Rings Fountain

Tomorrow, the Conservancy will be placing recycled sea wall stones around the Rings Fountain in the Wharf District Parks as a barrier to prevent the type of fountain damage experienced last winter, which occurred before the Conservancy began maintaining the Greenway. These large historic hand-cut stones are uniform in size and will be placed in […]
